Just as we’re writing this, the Cairns Show is getting underway.
It’s a great and much-loved event each year, though it’s a little hard to describe exactly what it is because it covers so many different things. Certainly there’s a lot of emphasis on agriculture and animals but also crafts, entertainments and just plain simple fun and games.
It’s usually very well attended and huge amounts of fun for one and all. You can even try your hand at country dancing if you like! There are some famous local dancers who also perform every night – they’re fantastic.
This is also the venue for the Australian pole-climbing championships and the record for 80 feet is something like 10-11 seconds. Yes, it’s as incredible as it sounds!
As you might expect, it all ends up in a great firework display that gets everyone “oohing” and “ahhing” at the flashes and bangs.
This event is always popular with visitors at our Palm Cove, Cairns or Port Douglas, accommodation. We are, it goes without saying, always available for help and guidance on how to get there and so on.
We’re mentioning this because we’re always keen to balance perceptions about Far North Queensland. Sure, we’re proud of our great beaches, fantastic countryside, marvellous accommodation and sports but we’re also keen to point out just what a bustling and vibrant city Cairns is. The opportunities here for ‘different’ holiday activities are legion and we’re always keen to encourage our guests to experience those.
The Cairns Show is just one example. We’ve got plenty of others coming along so don’t just think “oh, I’ve missed it”.
