Title : Palm Cove From a Visitors Perspective

I spent a long weekend in Palm Cove recently. It’s still the same relaxed calming place I remember. Life had been hectic so the plan was to do as little as possible.

Here’s what I got up to:

Fly in: Midnight Thursday. I’m lucky to have “connections” so my family picked me up and we headed to the resort. But you can organise a hire care, taxi or limo from their airport, or even a helicopter if that’s your James Bond dream.

Arrive 1am: Palm Cove’s gorgeous Island Views three-bedroom apartment, have a cuppa and head to bed.

Day 1 Friday: Get up not too early and head off for a walk along the beach with my sister and her husband. Then it’s a fully cooked buffet breakfast at the apartment thanks to my dad and the boys.

It’s my birthday tomorrow, but we have plans, so we are heading up to Thala Beach Resort for lunch.

The views are spectacular and after lunch we head down to the beach and the quaint Beach Shack.

Seriously, if you’re up that way this would be a great spot for a Sunday arvo kick back with the bar and hammocks at your fingertips.

After a long lunch and bushwalk we’re back home and preparing dinner. Dad’s homemade lasagne is always the best. Now it’s time for mags and crosswords, while the boys play the Wii. Early night…it’s been a busy day!

Day 2 Saturday: Another brekky on the balcony. There are plenty of options to head out and eat, but we are taking full advantage of the scenery and the complex.

Mum, my sisters and I leave the guys to do whatever they do and we hit the shops. A new dress and a pair of shoes later, which I might wear out to dinner tonight, and we need a break and stop off for a coffee at Apres.

My sister is heading off for a massage, so we walk her there – catch up with people I know from a faraway land - and continue on our way back to the apartment for lunch and a relax by the pool. My afternoon is spent reading on the on the day bed on the balcony.

Later that afternoon dad, my sister and her husband head into the Cairns night markets for a massage. We all have the full body massage and foot spa for $15 from Carley’s Chinese Massage and feel refreshed for dinner tonight at Beach Almond…my brother-in-law has been dreaming about the chilli crab since we all visited last time. And it doesn’t disappoint him!

After a few vinos and dinner, we head to NuNu for dessert and a cocktail to round out another perfect day in paradise.

Day 3 Sunday: Up late last night calls for a sleep-in, but we still take a walk on the beach. There’s a wedding in the chapel and bride arrives by helicopter. Today we are heading to Port Douglas to the markets and a picnic by the sea.

You’ve got to try the sour cream and chives macadamia nuts there, they are to die for.

We do over the shops and then head to the park nearby for a deli lunch of bread, dips, cheeses, olives, sun-dried tomatoes and a selection of meats. The weather is warm with a slight cool edge, but it’s a great day.

We have our last family dinner tonight, so it’s time for siesta. After a little nap, the boys are off for a swim down the beach, so the girls decide it’s time for an ice cream and stroll to the jetty. There are always people fishing there so you are guaranteed a good chat to the locals.

We grab a coffee from Coffee Haven on the way back and head to the apartment to prepare our huge family roast dinner. The facilities in the room at second to none, everything you need is there. It’s another fantastic night on the balcony. I’m sure that balcony has heard some stories.

Day 4 Monday: We are heading home today, but we don’t have to leave straight away, so we end up at Chill Cafe for our last cuppa in Palm Cove, this time anyway.

Happy Holidays
