You may know the feeling from your own holidays - a sense of tiredness that can hit in the first couple of days and a feeling you would certainly prefer to do without.
What is it and more importantly, what can you do to avoid it?
In our opinion, this commonplace feeling of exhaustion at the start of a holiday is often attributable to a release of the stress that has been bottled up inside during your normal working life. When you are rushing around trying to cope with the pressures of routine daily existence, stress can be subconsciously suppressed and it then gets let off when you go on holiday.
That process is perfectly normal and actually essential for the maintenance of good health both physical and psychological. There are though, a few things you may be able to do to reduce its debilitating effects during the first few days of your holiday.
1. Flying visit type holidays are fine but try to take at least a couple of longer holidays during the year. More stress will be released more regularly and your health will be better for it.
2. When you first arrive on holiday, plan in a couple of days of not doing very much other than laying around the pool or on the beach. Give yourself time to recover from the journey and to fully unwind. Don’t launch into hugely demanding physical or sporting activities in the first day or two.
3. Consume alcohol in moderation. That’s good advice at any time but particularly in the first couple of days of your holiday when your body will be unwinding.
4. Select the best possible accommodation. Palm cove, Trinity Beach, Port Douglas, it doesn’t matter providing that your accommodation is offering you the best possible environment for relaxation.
A few basic ideas and they might not work for everybody but they just may help you avoid that feeling of fatigue that can affect some holiday makers in the initial few days away.
